Home - School Communication Charter
Effective communication between home and school is essential for the wellbeing of pupils, parents, carers, and staff.
This Charter sets out how communication will be managed to ensure it is productive.
In addition to progress evenings, school events, etc., there may be occasions when parents or carers wish to communicate with the school directly with questions or information related to their child.
To ensure that this is effective, the following principles will be applied:
If an emergency arises, it is important that you contact us as soon as possible and explain what has happened or is happening.
Our commitment as a school
We will:
- Ensure that there is regular, proactive communication about your child’s school experience.
- Respond to emails and phone calls, usually within three working days.
- Ask an appropriate member of staff to deal with the issue as soon as possible if there is an urgent matter.
- Endeavour to display polite, professional conduct at all times.
Our expectations of parents and carers
You will:
- Ensure that any communication with the school is polite and respectful.
- Make use of information channels in place, such as the school website and social media, to stay updated.
- Refrain from sending multiple emails regarding the same query.
- Limit the number of recipients in an email to avoid confusion about who should respond.
- Understand that communications are addressed in the order they are received.
- Understand that school staff cannot be expected to respond outside of school hours.
No offensive language, insults, or personal attacks on school staff will be tolerated. If any such incidents occur, the meeting or call can be terminated with immediate effect.
All calls to and from the school landline are recorded. Parents, carers, or pupils may only record a meeting or conversation if they have the explicit permission of all participants.
The constraints on school resources make it essential that parents and carers follow the guidance above to avoid diverting time and attention that must be invested directly in pupils’ learning and wellbeing.
Please note that unreasonable, abusive, or offensive communication is unacceptable, and the school reserves the right to address any such problems as they deem appropriate. This may include:
- Restricting correspondence to a specified email address.
- Using a single point of contact.
- Communicating through hard copy post.
- Placing restrictions on phone calls.
In cases of inappropriate, threatening, or argumentative behaviour, the school reserves the right to take appropriate action, which may include removing certain communication privileges.
If a response has been given to a query, unless circumstances change, further responses will not be provided.
We aim to ensure that all communication and discussions regarding pupils and their families remain constructive, respectful, and focused on positive outcomes.
